Edmonds-Lloyd reach 50, Bell returns

Wednesday 12 April 2017, 5:58pm

It is apt that She Goes Pop's runaway win at the Sunshine Coast has helped jockey Jeff Lloyd and trainer Toby Edmonds reach milestones at the same time.

Edmonds and Lloyd have been the most dominant partnership in Queensland racing this season since Bruce McLachlan and Brian York in the late 1980s.

She Goes Pop ($4.40) gave Edmonds 50 metropolitan winners for the first time in a season.

Wednesday's win also brought up 50 overall winners for the season for the Lloyd/Edmonds partnership, the first time it has been done by a trainer/jockey combination in Queensland.

"She Goes Pop was never going to lose. It is a great tribute to Toby's ability," Lloyd said.

Trainer Darren Bell was also celebrating at the meeting when Misery scored a hard-fought win.

It was only Bell's second runner since his stable was closed in December after an outbreak of the highly infectious respiratory disease strangles.

He had had no runners since December 17 when stewards shut down his stables.

"I only had four horses with signs of strangles but they shut both my stable barns with 22 horses," Bell said.

"I would like to thank my owners who stuck by me, Only one horse was moved.

"It has been very expensive for us. It is an emotional win for us."

The Bell-trained Silver Fox was a close second earlier in the day.
