Randwick track a 'heavy 9'

Thursday 13 April 2017, 4:40pm

Sydney's Randwick racecourse is rated a "heavy 9" ahead of the weekend's All Aged Stakes meeting.

The track is expected to remain heavy for Saturday's meeting, featuring the All Aged and Champagne Stakes, after constant rain over the past two-and-a-half months.

After more than 450mm fell in Sydney over February and March, and 75mm in April so far, Randwick racecourse manager Nevesh Ramdhani said the track was likely to remain in the heavy range.

"The tracks have handled it really well and I suspect we'll race on a heavy track on Saturday given those rainfall figures," he said on Thursday.

It doesn't bode well for Redkirk Warrior, who may be scratched from the All Aged if conditions don't improve.

The Newmarket Handicap winner was one of the favourites for the 1600m Doncaster Mile on April 1 but finished 11th on a "heavy 8" rated track.

English, who won last year's All Aged Stakes on a soft track, is the $3.50 favourite to defend her title on Saturday.
