Bold Kingston support justified at Doomben

The decision to miss the Magic Millions Classic with Bold Kingston paid dividends when he landed a long-priced betting move at Doomben on Saturday.

Bold Kingston, who was backed from $21 into $12, won a length of the straight battle with Snitz ($3) before scoring by a half neck.

Bold Kingston, a Your Song gelding who cost $80,000 as a yearling, was qualified for the Magic Millions Classic in January.

However, trainer John Zielke did not accept, sending him for a break and bringing him back for the winter.

"I don't think he could have won the Magic Millions. I have always thought he would be best around the 1400-metre to 1600-metre mark," Zielke said.

"But I will probably keep him away from the better horses in the winter. I have a few I want to run in the BRC Sires' (on May 27) but I think they would beat him.

"So I will look for something easier bit with a bit of black type."

Apprentice Tiffani Brooker continued her good run with Zielke when she rode a heady race.

"We had a good trail but the leaders weren't going that hard. I decided to get off the fence and put some pressure into the race," Brooker said.

"He still isn't mature mentally but he fought on very well."

Ron Stewart who rode Snitz said the gelding had a nice run in the lead but the winner had just out-slogged him in the final 100m.
