The new Kelso Wood-Patricia Gesler training partnership is up and running and aiming high with two-year-old Snitzkraft.
Wood and Gesler had their first runner as a team with Charcuterie who was third at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Gesler has worked for Wood, a multiple Group One winning trainer, for more than a decade and he was keen to help her break into the training ranks..
Snitzkraft is on course to make his return to racing at Eagle Farm in a fortnight.
The colt was one of the stars of the Brisbane summer, winning two races in good fashion before going for a spell.
Wood elected to miss the Sydney autumn with Snitzkraft and concentrate on the Brisbane winter.
"I didn't think he was ready to have a trip to Sydney. He has had a nice break and been back with us for a few weeks," Wood said.
"At this stage he will resume in the Dalrello Stakes (April 29) and then push on to the Champagne Classic (May 13), the (BRC) Sires Produce (May 27) and the J J Atkins Stakes(June 10).
"I have no doubt that he will get at least the 1600 metres of the Atkins on his breeding," Wood said.
"His dam Power O'Raylee was a very good middle distance mare."
Snitzkraft is by leading stallion Snitzel who was also the sire of Wood's 2012 J J Atkins winner in Sizzling.
"If things go right I am keen to take Snitzkraft south for the spring carnivals," he said.
