Lonhro has produced another promising colt for the Godolphin stable with Regent overcoming a sluggish start to win on debut at Canterbury.

After his tardy start, Regent ($12) settled nicely and Tye Angland timed his run to perfection on the two-year-old in Monday's maiden handicap (1100m) for two-year-olds to beat favourite Envy Of All ($2.60) by a long neck.

Another first-timer Easy Go Easy Win ($21) was third, three-quarters of a length away.

"It was a lovely ride by Tye. That's how he trialled too. He's a horse that seems to build up in his revs over the last 200 metres if you look after him early," Godolphin representative Darren Beadman said.

"The Lonhros, they do tend to appreciate that little bit of cuddling and they'll give you their all over the concluding stages."

In his former life as a jockey, Beadman rode Lonhro to 10 Group One wins.

The Chris Waller-trained Wayanka ($4.40) has taken five starts to break his maiden, but did it determined fashion in the TAB Plate (1200m).

The three-year-old, gelded since his last start unplaced effort at Warwick Farm on February 8, responded well to his change of status to win by neck from a fast-finishing Pelorus Jack.

Pelorus Jack ($4.60) made an impressive surge from near last on the turn to take second ahead of Cordero ($6.50), who was three-quarters of a length third.

Waller's stable manager Charlie Duckworth was impressed given Wayanka sweated up significantly in the mounting yard.

"He's just a horse that's been doing the odd thing wrong. We even saw today he sweated up badly in the pre-race," Duckworth said.

"There's obviously improvement to come, the way he won you'd suggest he's on for bigger and better things."

His jockey Hugh Bowman said the gelding operation had helped Wayanka concentrate on the job at hand.

Randwick-based trainer Les Bridge showed rare emotion when Slow Burn ($3.40) blitzed her rivals in the TAB Rewards Plate (1200m) for three-year-old fillies.

"It's not often I really get rapt in a horse but I like this one," he said, after Slow Burn won her first start by four lengths.

"She's a little bit highly strung but she's handled the occasion very well today," he said.
