Polarisation cleared for Sydney Cup re-run

Tuesday 18 April 2017, 1:42pm

Godolphin's England-based trainer Charlie Appleby has finally received some positive news regarding his Sydney-based contingent with Polarisation cleared to contest a re-run of the Sydney Cup after passing a veterinary inspection.

The five-year-old gelding, who passed the winning post first at Randwick on April 8 before jockey Corey Brown realised the race had been called off, was found to have heat in a fetlock over the weekend.

Precautionary X-rays and ultrasounds ordered by the stable veterinarian detected no abnormalities.

Racing NSW chief veterinary officer Craig Suann examined the horse on Tuesday at the Canterbury quarantine centre.

Suann passed Polarisation fit to race on Saturday after inspecting him and observing his trackwork.

Polarisation and stablemate Penglai Pavilion, who crossed the line third in the 'no race' were brought to Australia specifically for the Group One $2 million 3200m-staying feature.

They were accompanied by The Gold Trail, who was euthanised after breaking down shortly after finishing fourth in the Mornington Cup on March 25.

The TAB has Polarisation as the $6 third favourite behind the Darren Weir-trained Big Duke ($3.50) and Penglai Pavilion ($4.60).

The 14-strong field will be declared on Wednesday.
