Overreach has confirmed her favouritism for the Golden Slipper by trouncing the horse which beat her at her first start.
Starting the $1.40 favourite ahead of Villa Verde ($3.20) in Saturday's Reisling Stakes at Rosehill, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Overreach jumped cleanly, led throughout and stretched her rival in the straight to win by 4-1/4 lengths.
The pair had the race pretty much to themselves with Spurrendous ($101) leading the other four runners, 1-3/4 lengths behind Villa Verde.
"She ticks every box," Waterhouse said.
"She deserves to be the short-priced favourite and I can't fault her."
Bookmakers immediately wound Overreach in to between $2 and $2.10 for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 6 with second favourite Villa Verde easing from $6 to as much as $13.
Trainer Shaun Dwyer wasn't about to throw in the towel regarding the runner-up, saying there was still improvement to come from Villa Verde who beat Overreach in the Debutants Stakes at Caulfield in October.
"She still has improvement in her and can improve over the next two weeks," he said.
"The winner will obviously be hard to beat but the barriers will be important and I'm not conceding yet."
Overreach's jockey Tommy Berry ominously warned his filly also had improvement left in her.
"She has a very high cruising speed and although we weren't going that fast, I made her find the line," he said.
"Hugh (Bowman) rode a smart race on the other one but it wasn't good enough."
Overreach is raced by her breeder George Altomonte who owned Hasna, third to Polar Success in the 2003 Slipper before going on to win the Sires' Produce and Champagne Stakes.
"It is exciting," Altomonte said.
"Gai has been very confident about her and I think she will be hard to beat in the Slipper."
