The aptly-named Road Trippin' is set for another interstate assignment but first his trainer expects the gelding to win again at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Cranbourne trainer Stephen Theodore has pinpointed the Scone Guineas in NSW next month as an ideal target for Road Trippin' who has put together back-to-back interstate wins heading into Saturday's race in Melbourne.
The three-year-old contests the Zouki Handicap (1600m) with apprentice Katelyn Mallyon to take 2kg of his 60kg impost.
Theodore said the gelding had matured and was starting to deliver.
Road Trippin' scored a second-up win in Adelaide early last month before taking out the Albury Guineas (1400m) last start.
"Finally he's furnished and matured into a nice horse," Theodore said.
Having been thrown in the deep end against the best of his generation early in his career, Theodore said the start of this campaign with Road Trippin' had been about building the three-year-old's confidence.
And the trainer has been delighted with the results.
"He hasn't missed a beat since the Albury Guineas and I'll be bitterly disappointed if he's not in the winning stall again," Theodore said.
"If he wins again on Saturday, as I half expect him to, he'll go up to Scone for their Guineas."
The $400,000 Scone Guineas, restricted to horses nominated for the Inglis Race Series, is run on May 18 during the Scone Race Club's two-day carnival.
"He'll possibly have a couple of weeks on the water walker after Saturday and then go to Scone. He'll be coming back to 1400 metres so he'll have a freshen up in between," Theodore said.
Road Trippin' is equal second favourite for the Moonee Valley race behind the John Sadler-trained Excited Spirit who has won both his starts this preparation at Bendigo and Werribee.
