In-form sprinter Tokamak will step up to black type company after making it four wins in a row at Doomben on Saturday.
Trainer Barry Lockwood will target the Listed Members Handicap (1600m) at Eagle Farm on April 20 for Tokamak ($3.60 fav) who wore down the leader War Ends ($7) to win the Brisbane Screenprinting & Displays Handicap (1350m) by a neck with Skating On Ice ($4.60) a head way third.
"If he wins his next race in a fortnight then he can take the natural progression but we won't aim too high with him," Lockwood said.
"He had a beautiful barrier draw and he took advantage of it today which was his first run for a month so he's done a good job."
Lockwood said Tokamak's headstrong racing style often brought about his undoing last campaign.
"He's got a lot of heart but in the early days he used to think he could conquer the world but he's settled down a lot since then," he said.
Jockey Michael Cahill is a fan of Seeking More but stopped short of declaring him a winter carnival contender after his narrow win in the Davking Handicap (1110m).
Seeking More ($2.25 fav) made it four wins from only six starts when he held off a determined challenge from Maury ($9) to win by a long head in the Davking Handicap (1110m).
Cahill was impressed with the gelding's will-to-win but believes he still needs to develop mentally before he can measure up to black type company during the winter.
"He gets a bit nervous and hasn't got the best temperament at the moment," Cahill said.
"When he was behind the barriers before the race he was white with foam but it's mostly due to inexperience."
Seeking More was inclined to over-race in the middle stages which took its toll on the three-year-old in the final stages.
"When he got behind the two leaders he raced a bit too fierce and just needs to be a bit more relaxed," Cahill said.
