My Tagoson has snared consecutive Highway Handicaps, two years after it was feared he was at the end of the road.

Scone trainer Rod Northam revealed the five-year-old gelding risked being euthanised before he joined his stable in April, 2015.

"When I actually got the horse there was a feeling he would never ever race and might even be put down.

"He had a lot of feet problems and they thought suspensory damage."

Fortunately for the son of Octagonal, Northam and his staff persevered and that patience had been rewarded at Randwick.

Northam was holidaying in Indonesia when My Tagoson claimed the previous Highway Handicap (1600m) on August 19.

Now the horse is headed for a freshen up after scoring Saturday's 1400m trip by a length.

Makfi Lass ($7.50) was second and $4.20 favourite Super Star Bob followed a neck back in third.

"He's going super," Northam said.

"I have to thank my farrier, my vet and all the staff at home. We've got him right and he's flying.

"He's been really good since we've had him, we just manage his feet."

Northam prime concern was My Tagoson racing for the seventh time this preparation.

"I was worried coming back to the 1400 after a long prep, he's been up since April," Northam said.

The staff did a good job while I was away."

Northam said the My Tagoson ($7) would now take a break to prepare for the $200,000 Anniversary Handicap (1400m) on Everest Day, October 14.

"That was plan. If he ran 1400 strong we'd give him a freshen up, a trial and straight into that," Northam said.

Hugh Bowman was impressed after weaving My Tagoson through a gap at the 200.

"It was a really good effort. I was banking on them coming back to me and once he was in touch he took himself to the line."
