Trainer John Zielke has no hesitation backing Dreams Aplenty up at Doomben as he prepares him for races in Sydney and Melbourne.

Dreams Aplenty was second over 1350m last Saturday and Zielke believes the gelding is perfectly placed in the Surf Lifesaving Queensland Open Handicap (1600m) this week.

A strong performance from Dreams Aplenty will set him on a path to Sydney in two weeks time and then possibly Melbourne.

Zileke said he had no doubt Dreams Aplenty would have won last week had the race been at 1600m.

"I had him very forward for the 1350 metres last week. Luke Dittman came in and said he wished the race had been 1600," Zielke said.

"Luke said he had only gone 300 metres and he was thinking Dreams APlenty would want 1600. When they sprinted in the straight he couldn't go with them but he kept giving."

"He went home and licked out the bin so I am sure he is right to run well on Saturday and then head off south."

Dreams Aplenty was having his first run last week since finishing 14th in the Group Two Queensland Guineas on June 10.

"We had him sold for $1.1 million to Hong Kong last year but the deal fell through," Zielke said.

"But he won four on end for us in the winter including the Group Three Gunsynd Stakes and the Darling Downs Guineas. Now I hope he can be a spring winner in the south."

Rival trainer Barry Lockwood has scratched Ballina Cup winner Cashing Up from the Open Handicap.

"I was confident he was ready to race well in Brisbane open company but he has the extreme outside barrier and it is very hard to win from there, so he might as well stay home for another day," Lockwood.

"As soon as I saw he had drawn barrier 14 I rang up and scratched him."
