Jake Noonan will soon be swapping riding in Melbourne for trying his luck in England but hopes there are some city winners for him before he departs.
Noonan has three rides at Sandown on Wednesday in what is likely to be one of his final midweek city meetings before he packs up and heads overseas.
The former champion Victorian apprentice came out of his time earlier this year after outriding his claim and has been planning to venture to the UK at the end of April.
He said no exact date for his departure had been locked in but it would be within the next month.
"It's going to be a challenge but I always look forward to a challenge," Noonan said.
"I've had good experiences here but this will be something new."
Noonan will link with trainer Andrew Balding in England, keen to learn as much as he can and become a better rider.
Two of Noonan's Sandown rides are for his father Tony, who trains at Mornington, and the jockey believes both are realistic chances.
Three-year-old Return Journey won two of her three starts in her first preparation, including a Boxing Day win at Caulfield, and resumes in the Superior Food Services Handicap.
Noonan said Return Journey was a jump-and-run filly who could perform well over the 1000m.
"She's pretty smart and has obviously shown that in all her starts," he said.
"I wouldn't be surprised if she kept it going tomorrow."
Four-year-old mare Chit Chat returns from a let-up in the Schweppes Handicap (1300m).
Noonan rode her to win a Mornington maiden by 5-1/2 lengths two starts back before she finished runner-up at Bendigo at her most recent start before a let-up.
"Last preparation she started to put it all together and it wouldn't surprise me to see her run a really good race," he said.
