New tactics help Colosimo regain top form

Saturday 23 September 2017, 12:49pm

A change of tactics paid off when classy filly Colosimo kept on the path to the Magic Millions carnival with her win at Ipswich on Saturday.

Colosimo, who is owned by the Aquis Farm syndicate, scored her first win in slashing style at Eagle Farm in December when trained by Steve O'Dea but her form tapered off.

She was sent to Chris Waller in Sydney and ran two fifths before Waller decided to send her back to his Queensland stable in the care of Paul Shailer.

At her first start back in Queensland, Colosimo was fourth to star three-year-old Whypeeo at the Gold Coast on August 26.

"We gave her a month away from racing and tried to teach her to travel back in the field. We were riding her for pace in Sydney and it wasn't working," Shailer said.

"She was ridden back on purpose today and she really hit the line."

Colosimo ($6.50) scored by 3/4 length to Adoradancer ($13) with 1-/4 lengths to the favourite Miss Exfactor ($1.55) in the CNE Concrete Pumping Handicap.

"I think she will get better over more ground the Millions carnival remains firmly in our sights," Shailer said.
