Pride to gauge Passage Of Time's promise

Tuesday 26 September 2017, 12:35pm

Joe Pride will have a clearer indication of the quality of horse he has inherited from James Cummings when Passage Of Time makes his debut for his new stable at Rosehill.

The four-year-old joined Pride at Warwick Farm after Cummings accepted the role as Godolphin's head trainer in Australia and has settled in well to his new surroundings.

Owned by Gooree Stud, Passage Of Time arrived with an impressive record of two wins from five starts and Pride has given him two trials.

"He's trialled like a horse that's going to race well for us. He seems like he is in good order," Pride said.

Passage Of Time resumes in a Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m) on Wednesday as the TAB's early $6 second favourite after which Pride will map out the rest of his campaign.

"He's settled in well to the environment at the Farm but you've got no sort of reference point to know how they've worked in the past," Pride said.

"We'll take him to the races and let him tell us how well he's going."

Glyn Schofield will also provide his insight with the experienced jockey in the saddle for two of Passage Of Time's last three starts and both trials leading into his comeback.

"I've had a good chat to Glyn about the horse. We're picturing running him between 1200 to 1400 metres," Pride said.

Pride has no target in mind for Passage Of Time over spring but that could change.

"We're not going to muck around with him, " he said.

"If he's going well he'll be dropped in the deep end at some stage.

Pride also took over training another Gooree horse, Tactical Advantage, from Cummings and the four-year-old trials at Warwick Farm on October 9.

Tactical Advantage last raced in the Listed Daybreak Lover Plate at Doomben on June 10, running second to All Over Bossanova.
