Everest slots for Lindsay Park pair

Friday 29 September 2017, 12:31pm

Only two slots remain for the $10 million Everest after confirmation Lindsay Park will have Vega Magic and Redkirk Warrior lining up in the world's richest race on turf.

The Star Entertainment Group has selected Newmarket Handicap winner Redkirk Warrior with prominent owner Max Whitby confirming Vega Magic will represent the group he heads.

Coolmore and Damion Flower hold the vacant slots for the 12-horse race over 1200 metres at Randwick on October 14.

Former Perth horse Vega Magic has won 12 of his 17 starts and is unbeaten since joining the Lindsay Park operation headed by David Hayes including twice at Group One level in the Goodwood and Memsie Stakes.

Hayes put up two horses for consideration with Whitby waiting until the Star Group made its decision.

"Hayes has got the resources, good jockeys, good infrastructure," Whitby said.

Whitby had not settled on a jockey but said a Victorian rider was most likely.

Redkirk Warrior has had one start this spring, claiming a convincing victory in the Group Two Bobbie Lewis (1200m) at Flemington on September 16.

Vega Magic ($7) and Redkirk Warrior ($9) are among the early favourites behind Chautauqua ($5).

She Will Reign, Houtzen, English, Fell Swoop, Redzel, Brave Smash and Deploy are also confirmed starters.
