Justin Stanley suspended for a month

Thursday 19 October 2017, 7:58am

Senior Queensland jockey Justin Stanley is expected to appeal a four-week suspension on a handling charge.

Stanley is based in Brisbane but often rides at TAB provincial meetings during the week.

Stewards charged him for his ride on Doubos who finished fifth, beaten 1-1/4 lengths, at Rockhampton on September 29.

Stewards alleged Stanley showed insufficient vigour in the final 100 metres and failed to give his mount every chance to gain the best position in the race.

Stanley pleaded not guilty and argued his horse had made a long run which had ended by the 100m of the 1600m-race.

Stewards found him guilty and suspended him for a calendar month from Saturday night until November 21.
