Race experience and a gear change are expected to boost the chances of two-year-old Brinkmanship at Doomben when he has his second start.

Brinkmanship won a Gold Coast trial impressively before showing his inexperience in the straight when second at the Gold Coast at his race debut two weeks ago.

Stewards placed a warning on Brinkmanship and trainer Helen Page has added a near side blinker to his race gear for Saturday's two-year-old handicap over 1110 metres.

Brinkmanship showed a lot of pace but rolled around in the straight before finishing second to You Know The One who he will meet again on Saturday.

Page is confident the race experience will have improved him.

"He ran well and it is always the case with two-year-olds they get confidence from a start," Page said.

Page is already a big fan of the colt's sire Spirit Of Boom, the 2014 Doomben 10,000 winner who stands at Eureka Stud on the Darling Downs.

"We went to the sales chasing a couple of the breed as we always want QTIS horses. The QTIS bonus scheme is great for owners and trainers in Queensland," she said.

Brinkmanship is out of the mare Tiyatro making him a half brother to the smart filly Tiyatrolani, who runs in the Open Handicap (1050m) on Saturday.
