Our Crown Mistress steps up to city class

Saturday 21 October 2017, 1:47pm

Our Crown Mistress has continued a rise through the grades and is now likely to be tested at stakes level for the first time after winning at Caulfield.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly made it three wins from four starts in her city debut in Saturday's Resimax Group Plate (1400m).

After finishing second on debut in a Bendigo maiden at the start of September, Our Crown Mistress has raced to consecutive wins.

With Stephen Baster aboard, $2.40 favourite Our Crown Mistress worked forward from an awkward draw to sit outside the leader Naantali ($6.50) and then took over early in the home straight.

The grey filly held a half-length margin over Naantali with the same margin to Counterplay ($6.50).

Baster believes Our Crown Mistress has plenty of talent and Waterhouse indicated a 1400m stakes race for fillies during the upcoming Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington was the next target.

"She's a big strong filly," Baster said.

"So as long as she stays sound she's going to be a very, very good filly."

Baster said Waterhouse and Bott had done a great job with the filly.

"She has looked better in the yard every start and looked the fittest she has looked today, so it's been a big effort to get her here today and produce another win," he said.
