Fuhryk bounces back with Caulfield victory

Saturday 21 October 2017, 7:24pm

Just over an hour after cheering home Boom Time to win the Caulfield Cup, the Lindsay Park team were back in the winner's circle with sprinting mare Fuhryk.

Boom Time scored an upset in Saturday's $3 million Caulfield Cup before Fuhryk bounced back to winning ways in the Listed Alinghi Stakes in the final race on the program.

"It just caps the day," co-trainer Ben Hayes said.

"When it rains it pours.

"That was fantastic for her to bounce back because we've always thought she had Group One quality."

Fuhryk ($4.40) was a luckless runner when unplaced in the Cockram Stakes first-up before finishing unplaced again in the Group Three How Now Stakes last start.

The mare, ridden by Craig Williams, burst clear halfway up the home straight on Saturday to beat Lyuba by 2-1/4 lengths with three-quarters of a length to favourite Nieta in third.

"Last start she had a genuine excuse," Hayes, who trains in partnership with his father David and cousin Tom Dabernig, said.

"She was going down on her bumpers and wasn't letting down. We fixed that problem, the hair has grown back on her bumpers and she's not scared to let down again."
