Currie cops ban after winning G1 Manikato

Saturday 28 October 2017, 8:29am

Luke Currie has had the joy of winning the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on Hey Doc soured with a 10-meeting careless riding suspension.

Currie was outed on Friday night for shifting in near the 900m mark leaving insufficient racing room for Vega Magic (Craig Williams) and runner-up In Her Time (Corey Brown) which led to both horses becoming unbalanced.

The incident prompted Brown to lodge a protest against the winner which was dismissed.

Stewards took into account Currie's guilty plea and his good record but deemed the interference in the mid-range while also being a Group One race in suspending him for 10 meetings.

Currie's suspension begins after Saturday's Cox Plate meeting and he returns in time for Melbourne Cup day.
