Hard work pays dividends for Ric McMahon

Saturday 28 October 2017, 2:22pm

Trainer Barry Lockwood predicted Ric McMahon could break back into Brisbane's top 10 jockeys after they combined to win with Adoradancer at Doomben.

McMahon rode a perfect race to get Adoradancer ($7) home a short neck to Bold Xavi ($8.50) with a neck to Wudang Blade ($12).

He was among the leading jockeys for several seasons until getting a hefty suspension in 2015 and since he returned he has struggled for city rides.

But McMahon has been a trackwork regular work and is getting more and more rides from Eagle Farm trainers.

Lockwood is a big fan of McMahon and believes he has unlimited ability.

"I have said to him Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Scratch them off each day when you turn up," Lockwood said.

"He rides work he gets rides. If he stays on the couch he can ride that."

Lockwood also has a big opinion of Adoradancer who is by Time Thief.

"I have got three horses by Time Thief. (Stakes performer) Tumbler, Tumbler's unraced sister and this one and they all have ability," Lockwood said.

"I think Adoradancer should have won her previous start and I put blinkers on her today which made the difference."
