English set for spell after Manikato

Sunday 29 October 2017, 3:47pm

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are reassessing their spring schedule for English after the mare's disappointing run in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The training partnership had planned to enter English in the Group One Darley Classic (1200m) down the Flemington straight on November 11, but it seems likely she will head to the paddock.

English was fractious in the gates before the Group One weight-for-age sprint on Friday night, but unlike Chautauqua she passed a vet inspection and was allowed to race.

She ultimately finished last of the nine runners, 22 lengths behind the winner Hey Doc.

"That's probably going to cause us to pull up stumps now this campaign and really focus on the autumn," Bott told Sky Sports Radio.

English openedher campaign with a fourth in the The Shorts before running second to In Her Time in the Group Two Premiere Stakes and sixth in the $10 million Everest.

In Her Time finished second in the Manikato..

Entrusted with the TAB slot for the Everest on October 14, English placed sixth.
