Tommy Berry will partner grand campaigner Who Shot Thebarman in next week's $6 million Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington.
The Chris Waller-trained galloper returned to the winner's circle last Saturday when taking out the Group 2 Moonee Valley Cup (2500m).
Tuesday will mark his fourth attempt at the Melbourne Cup, with a third placing in 2014 being his best result.
"He's an old warrior that Chris Waller, like the master he is, has got him to peak at the right time," said Berry, who will fly in from Hong Kong for Derby Day this Saturday.
"He'll go into the Melbourne Cup as a last-start winner - something most of them won't be able to say."
Aside from his Melbourne Cup placing, Who Shot Thebarman won the Auckland Cup over the gruelling 3200m and has finished runner-up twice in the Sydney Cup over the same trip.
"He relishes the test and wasn't too far off them in last year's (Melbourne) Cup when fifth behind Almandin," Berry added.
"I'll be on a horse with the miles in his legs, coming off a strong win and a proven performer at this level - bring it on."
