Jamie Kah lands a Melbourne Cup day winner

Tuesday 7 November 2017, 1:13pm

Jamie Kah's new association with trainer Tony McEvoy has given Adelaide's premier jockey one of her biggest thrills with Dollar for Dollar winning at Flemington.

Although she remains a freelance rider, Kah has the pick of the McEvoy horses trained in South Australia with Dollar For Dollar one of her favourites and even more so after his win in the Lavazza Short Black (1400m) on Tuesday's Melbourne Cup program.

"It does not get better than that, to hear the crowd as you cross the winning post first, it's unreal," Kah said.

"And to win on this horse on such a big day is more exciting than anything.

"I just love him and I will be taking him when he finishes racing."

That won't be for a while yet with McEvoy to aim him at a Group Three race over 1500 metres at Sandown on November 18.

Kah had Dollar For Dollar ($5.50) just behind the pace and produced him in the straight where he surged to the front, holding off Land Of Plenty by 1-1/2 lengths.

McEvoy, who operates stables in SA and Melbourne, says Kah is an asset to his business.

"She has soft hands and is so balanced," he said.

"She is a real asset to my stable."
