Sadler excited about Caulfield prospects

Wednesday 17 April 2013, 4:48pm

Apprentice Tom Sadler heads to Caulfield for what he describes as his best book of rides for a Saturday meeting, highlighted by last-start winners African Pulse and Elite Elle.

Sadler, who needs just one win to outride his 3kg city claim, believes he's well-placed to have a successful day.

"I've got five rides and I'm really looking forward to it. Probably my best two are African Pulse and Elite Elle, and I've won on both of them before."

African Pulse scored an impressive first-up win at Caulfield recently with Sadler aboard and is being aimed at the Group One Goodwood in Adelaide next month.

Sadler is confident the sprinter can stamp his claims for that race with another big performance on Saturday in the Vintage Photobooths Plate (1100m).

"He's drawn out a bit (in barrier nine) but I think he should have too much class and too much pace for them," Sadler said.

"I think if he wins impressively again he'll be in good stead for the Goodwood."

Elite Elle scored by 2-3/4 lengths last start at Moonee Valley and Sadler will take 3kg off her 60.5kg impost in the Cath White Memorial Handicap (1200m).

"Elite Elle has drawn beautifully in two, she should get an ideal run on the pace and again I think she can be too classy," Sadler said.

Sadler has had a city treble at a midweek meeting before but has never won multiple races at a Saturday city fixture.

While not wanting to get ahead of himself, he feels the Caulfield meeting looms as his best chance yet.

"You just worry about one ride at a time, but this definitely looks like my best book of rides to date on a Saturday," Sadler said.

"I've only got one winner to go before I'm down to a two kilo claim. Hopefully Saturday is a real kick-start into the two kilo claim."

The apprentice doesn't have a ride in the feature race of the day, the Listed Pink Ribbon Cup (1400m) which has attracted an eight-horse field.

Sydney galloper Centennial Park is topweight with 60kg ahead of resuming Group One winner Zabeelionaire with 59.5kg.
