A pleasing debut win in Melbourne on Wednesday has set two-year-old filly The Huntress on a path to two NSW country carnivals.

The Huntress closed quickly over the final 200m to take out the Browns Sawdust & Shavings Handicap (1200m) and trainer Mick Kent is looking to races at Wagga Wagga and Scone.

"She's always been very strong late in her work at home," Kent said.

"They didn't seem to go too hard but she was good late.

"She's a nice filly. I really like her."

The $100,000 Inglis 2YO Challenge (1100m) at Scone on May 17 is the target for The Huntress but she'll progress to that race via a race at the Wagga Cup carnival which carries with it a $50,000 bonus if she is successful.

Jockey Brad Rawiller liked what he felt from The Huntress in a recent jump-out and said the filly took that form to the races at Sandown where she won by a half-length over So Bella Arella with Ready Cuz third.

"She won pretty impressively today," Rawiller said.

"We really ran home our last 400 metres pretty quick."

Premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller, meanwhile, continued his increased presence in Melbourne with a double to imports Multilateral and Index Linked.

Waller's two Melbourne wins added to a successful day at Canterbury where he had four winners.

Multilateral notched his first Australian win a week ago at Sandown and despite a quick back-up and rise in distance he proved too good again in the Land Engineering Handicap (2400m), winning by a half-head.

"It looked like it was going to take a bit to pick them up but he really pinned his ears back and fought to the line," Waller's stable representative Justine Hales said.

Index Linked later took out the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1500m) by 1-1/2 lengths on the back of a Newcastle maiden win last start.
