Snowdens chase more success in Queensland

Wednesday 22 November 2017, 11:32am

The Peter and Paul Snowden training partnership hope to kick off their annual Queensland summer campaign with a stakes win at Doomben.

The Snowdens will have Gold Symphony, who is resuming from a spell, in the Listed Recognition Stakes on Saturday.

Peter was a regular visitor to Queensland for the winter carnival when he was head trainer for the Darley operation.

Since going into a partnership with his son Paul, they have extended their visits to the summer.

The partnership has won 21 races at summer and winter carnivals in Queensland in just three years.

They were in great form in the winter, winning the Group One Doomben 10,000 with future superstar Redzel and the Group One Tatts Tiara with Tycoon Tara.

The partnership's best summer win was with Capitalist in the 2016 Magic Millions Classic.

Capitalist went on to win that year's Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill.

Paul Snowden said Gold Symphony was a seasoned traveller and would head north as long as the weather held.

The partnership has big plans for the next two months in Queensland, he said.

"There are some nice horses such as Pretty Fast, who won at Rosehill last Saturday, headed up," Snowden said.

He said Gold Symphony had gone well since a spell after finishing unplaced in the winter championship.

"You saw him up there in the winter and he ran in the Stradbroke before coming back to Sydney to win the Civic Stakes," he said.

"A wet track wouldn't worry him as he has won four times on soft-going."

Gold Symphony has had two trials in Sydney for his comeback, with the latest a close second at Randwick on November 17.

The Snowdens also nominated Nancy for the Ubet Classic on Saturday but decided not to accept with her.
