Speedy Kitty ready for Clockwise challenge

Friday 24 November 2017, 4:10pm

One thing Speedy Kitty won't be lacking in is experience when she tackles the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat.

The two-year-old race on Saturday is run right-handed and the only race run in a clockwise direction in Victoria.

It is designed to give young horses experience ahead of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January at the Gold Coast.

The Lindsay Park-trained Speedy Kitty races at Ballarat on Saturday after making her debut at Caulfield last month.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig said the Lindsay Park team elected to bypass Melbourne Cup week with Speedy Kitty, a $380,000 Magic Millions yearling.

"She's done most of her work since the Caulfield race on her Sydney leg and is just as experienced going right handed as she is left handed," Dabernig said.

"We decided to not run her at Flemington and to save her for this so we haven't been rushed for time to get her ready.

"She's been great heading into and I think she'll run great."

Dabernig has a healthy respect for Adelaide visitor Le Pomme De Pin who finished second to the Lindsay Park-trained Long Leaf at Morphettville.

Long Leaf came out to win the Merson Cooper Stakes at Sandown last Saturday.

"She was very fast and Long Leaf only got her late," Dabernig said.

"The Ballarat race seems to be won by horses up on the pace and it can be hard to run on, but I think our horse has definitely come on from her first up run."

The Magic Millions Clockwise Classic will be run for the sixth time on Saturday and Speedy Kitty will be Lindsay Park's fourth runner in the race.

"This is a relatively new race and you need a plan with your two-year-olds," Dabernig said.

"You need to have them sorted for Cup week but you've also got an indication of what your Magic Millions horses are.

"This race does come up quite early for the Magic Millions horses. She will be in the Magic Millions team depending on how she runs on Saturday."
