Quiet time ahead for in-form Ryan Balfour

Monday 27 November 2017, 5:35pm

Adelaide trainer Ryan Balfour is still coming to terms with his haul of five winners at Morphettville.

Balfour saddled eight runners at Saturday's meeting, walking away with five winners and two close seconds.

"Thinking about it now, it's still a little bit surreal," Balfour said.

"The day didn't start that well as I had to scratch a couple.

"One was in season and another picked up a bruise then Rushwa won, then it just kicked on from there.

"It was an incredible day."

Balfour followed Saturday's haul with Never Without You, ridden by his apprentice Alice Lindsay, at Clare on Sunday, his only runner for the day.

"It's been an amazing run and it's been going for six months," he said.

"It's great to have it consistent and not just in a burst.

"I've cut a few numbers and changed a few little things and the results are flowing."

Balfour won't see the same results at Morphettville on Saturday with just three horses nominated.

One of them, Mystified, is also among nominations for a 1000m fillies and mares benchmark 84 race at Sandown on the same day.

"We used a lot of bullets last weekend," Balfour said.

"You can't run them around every weekend.

"Even though there might be 35 or 40 horses in work, we don't have 35 or 40 racing.

"In your actual racing group, it may only be around 15 to 20 so it's been super to have that competitiveness out of that group."

Balfour says Mystified will gallop on Tuesday, be an acceptor at both Sandown and Morphettville on Saturday and he will let the barrier draws decide where she runs.

"She's come back big and strong and will keep on improving with each run," Balfour said.

"I'm hopeful enough this preparation to see her get out beyond 1200 metres if I can get her to relax."
