Apprentice Taylor Marshall has been suspended for more than three weeks after being found guilty of careless riding which led to a fellow rider falling from and breaking a leg in a race at Yarra Valley.

Racing Victoria stewards on Wednesday concluded an inquiry into the reason Arron Lynch fell from his mount Red Crown approaching the 400m of the 1953m race on October 28.

Evidence was taken from stewards and several riders and Marshall was subsequently found guilty of careless riding.

He was suspended for 26 meetings which is due to begin after Saturday's Sandown meeting and he can return on Boxing Day.

Stewards ruled Marshall allowed his mount Subatai to shift ground outwards when not clear of Lynch's mount Red Crown who was tightened for room.

Stewards said as a result of the tightening Red Crown appeared to clip heels and knuckle badly, resulting in Lynch falling.

Fellow apprentice Tahlia Hope has had a 16-meeting suspension halved on appeal at a Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board hearing on Thursday.

Hope appealed the severity of the suspension from Ballarat on Saturday after the apprentice pleaded guilty to weighing in more than 0.5kg over her declared weight after finishing second aboard Proud Wolf in a 1200m-handicap.
