Positives for Monsieur Gustave at Doomben

Thursday 30 November 2017, 3:10pm

The positives are expected to outweigh the negatives for Monsieur Gustave as he chases his fourth straight stakes win.

Monsieur Gustave picked up where he left off in the winter when he won the Listed Keith Noud Quality at Ipswich last week.

It followed Listed wins in the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich and the Glasshouse Sprint at Caloundra in the winter.

Monsieur Gustave meets his toughest field to date in the $200,000 Group Three George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

On the negative side Monsieur Gustave's outstanding form means he has to carry 58kg.

On the positive side he has won three of his four second-up runs from a spell and been second in the other.

Monsieur Gustave is also outstanding on soft tracks having won all four of his starts in the ground.

Doomben will at best be a soft rating on Saturday after heavy rain on Wednesday.

Trainer Darryl Hansen said he believed Monsieur Gustave could handle the increase in weight.

"He has carried big weights in other races and he is a very good horse," Hansen said.

"It is a tough race but we are after the big bonus for winning all three summer sprints so it all starts here," he said.

"A slow track won't worry him."

Tiffani Brooker, who has ridden Monsieur Gustave twice for two wins, will again be aboard.
