Redouble after trio of wins at Rosehill

Friday 1 December 2017, 9:36am

Bjorn Baker will make a call on whether to prolong Redouble's campaign after the gelding attempts his third successive win at Rosehill.

The four-year-old, who was transferred to the Baker stable from Hawkes Racing last autumn, has the fifth start of this campaign in Saturday's Boxing Day At Royal Randwick Handicap (1500m).

It will be the first time Redouble has tackled the distance since his last start for the Hawkes team when fifth in the Group Two Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill on March 11.

"There's no form like winning form and it was a big win last time so I think we go in with a fair bit of confidence," Baker said.

Redouble has had only one glitch since arriving at Baker's stable.

He was a distant last in a Benchmark 82 Handicap (1200m) at Randwick in October and was subsequently diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia.

Redouble recovered from the setback to claim Benchmark 80 Handicaps over 1300 and 1400-metres.

"He's a horse that's shown ability so it's nice to see him delivering," Baker said.

The trainer said Redouble was likely to head for a break after his next assignment.

While Redouble has built momentum, Baker is still perplexed about seven-year-old Coolring's prolonged form slump ahead of Saturday's Benchmark 85 Handicap (1300m).

The gelding's seventh and most recent win was in the Listed Prime Ministers Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast in May last year.

"He's got a big weight (61kg), but he's a quality horse on his day. He's been out of form for a wee while so we really need a result," Baker said.
