Perfect Pitch claims maiden at Rosehill

Saturday 2 December 2017, 1:37pm

Perfect Pitch has joined impressive stablemate Secret Lady by getting off the mark at the second attempt with a last-gasp win at Rosehill.

A week after Secret Lady claimed the Golden Gift at the same track, trainer Gary Portelli watched as another of his talented fillies hinted at a bright future by pipping newcomer Miss Invincible by a head.

Perfect Pitch was not among the favoured runners for the opening race on Saturday as a $12 chance but the two-year-old belied those odds by improving on a first-up third at Canterbury.

"I was pretty confident. No one wanted to talk about this filly," Portelli said.

"She had no luck at Canterbury. She should have finished a lot closer to Gongs and she's come on since the run.

"What you saw today is just a taste of what's going to come for this filly.

"She's got real stayers action for me. I think she's going to be a great horse as a three-year-old."

With her development in mind, Portelli said he would not push on to the Magic Millions.

He has 40 two-year-olds filtering through his system and looks forward to introducing more raw talent before and after Christmas.

Apprentice Rachel King also predicted a bright future for the Pierro filly.

"She's just very green still, very raw. She only really hit top gear right on the line," King said.

"I think today will help her and bring her on a lot."

Bjorn Baker was pleased with the debut of Miss Invincible ($4.40) while David Payne's first-timer Toulouse ($12) flashed home to claim third a head further back.
