Shinn OK to ride Millions favourite Bondi

Tuesday 12 December 2017, 4:22pm

Top jockey Blake Shinn is free to ride Magic Millions favourite Bondi when the colt puts his credentials on the line for the rich Gold Coast race.

Shinn has had three meetings shaved from a nine-meeting suspension, allowing him to return to the saddle on December 17.

The reduction means he can take the ride on Bondi in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic on Thursday week.

Shinn was suspended for careless riding at Canterbury on December 1, but changed his plea from not guilty to guilty when he appeared before the Racing NSW Appeals panel on Tuesday.

The suspension forced Shinn to surrender his spot in the Jockeys' World Cup Prelude in New Zealand, which will be held on Wednesday.

"Significant win at my appeal today," Shinn tweeted after the hearing.

Bondi is the $8 favourite for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast on January 13.

He is the $11 second favourite for the Golden Slipper in March.

Shinn rode Bondi when the two-year-old had his only start in the Breeders' Plate at Randwick in late September.

Bondi was beaten less than a length into second place by Performer, the early Golden Slipper favourite.

A win in the Wyong Magic Millions race will ensure Bondi a Gold Coast start and it will put him on course to emulate another Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt which was ridden by Shinn.

Capitalist won at Wyong on 2015 before claiming the Magic Millions and Golden Slipper double.

A $400,000 yearling by the leading sire Snitzel, Bondi had his first public outing since the Breeders' Plate when narrowly beaten in a barrier trial at Wyong last week.

Shinn is involved in an ongoing stewards' inquiry into a race at Rosehill last month.

He is one of several jockeys who have been quizzed over the running of a race won by Bull Market from the Snowden stable.

Shinn's mount Star Sensation finished third.
