Caulfield run to decide Magic Millions bid

Anthemoessa will be racing for a trip to the Gold Coast when she runs in a two-year-old race at Caulfield.

The Matt Cumani-trained filly lines up for her second race start when she contests the Evergreen Turf Plate (1100m) on Saturday.

It will be a make-or-break performance to see whether the filly will contest the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 13.

Anthemoessa finished second to La Pomme De Pin in the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat on November 25, an effort that pleased Cumani.

Cumani said the filly had improved off that performance, however drawing barrier 10 in the 13-horse on Saturday was not ideal.

"She's got a shocking draw," Cumani said.

"You really want an inside draw in these sort of races, but we'll see what we can do from 10.

"She's a lovely filly that goes quite well at this stage and if we can get her into these serious two-year-old races then hopefully she will be competitive."

While the daughter of Smart Missile handled racing right-handed without a problem, Cumani also expects going left-handed won't be a concern.

"She's a very straight-forward filly and very adaptable so I don't see her racing the other direction being a problem," Cumani said.

"I was worried early that she could be a filly that would let it all go to her head, but she's come out of it stronger and more mature so I'm happy with how she's going."

Cumani sees Saturday's race as the ideal opportunity to assess whether Antemoessa is up to making the trip north.

"What's running now is more of the two-year-old crop, rather than restricted Magic Millions horses," Cumani said.

"Whether that's for better or worse we'll find out on Saturday but she really needs to win to make sure of a berth in the Magic Millions."
