Snoopy to avenge close defeat

Friday 15 December 2017, 10:27am

As a jockey and a trainer there has been no-one more competitive than Chris Munce.

So it comes as no surprise he wasn't happy when stable newcomer Snoopy was beaten in a stakes race last start.

The much-travelled Snoopy was having his first start for Munce in the Group Three George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Doomben two weeks ago and the trainer is clear he should have won.

Snoopy was held up for a run several times in the straight before finishing third in a photo-finish won by Monsieur Gustave from Calanda.

"You wouldn't believe it. In fact I still can't believe it," Munce said.

Snoopy gets his chance to avenge the defeat in the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday

"He has won four times around 1300 metres so the distance is no worry and he has missed a place only once in four tries second-up, Also we are still down on the minimum," Munce said.

"To win the Lough Neagh would ease the pain of the George Moore."

Snoopy is likely to press on to the Buffering Quality and the Magic Millions Cup this campaign.

The gelding won six races in Victoria and NSW when trained by Hawkes Racing and showed his class when second to subsequent Group One winner Clearly Innocent in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes at Scone in May.

Ron Stewart, who rode Snoopy in the George Moore, has retained the ride for Saturday.
