Christophe Soumillon sets European record

Christophe Soumillon has set a European record for a Flat jockey in a calendar year, riding four winners at Lyon La Soie to take his tally to 302.

The Belgian-born Soumillon, 36, passed the mark established in 2016 by Pierre-Charles Boudot with the quartet on Saturday..

Soumillon is retained by the Aga Khan and this year posted three elite victories for his employer on Zarak (Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud), Shakeel (Grand Prix de Paris) and Vazirabad (Prix du Cadran).

His other Group One win during 2017 was on Godolphin horse Thunder Snow in the Prix Jean Prat.
