Sydney trip in doubt for Diamonds

Sunday 28 January 2018, 12:40pm

A trip to Sydney for talented filly Showus Ya Diamonds is up in the air after she pulled up sore when beaten for the first time at the Sunshine Coast.

The winner of her first two starts, Show Us Ya Diamonds had a bad time on Saturday, starting when she reared in the barriers before the start of the Three-Year-Old Handicap (1000m) but was cleared to start.

She was slow to begin and lost ground which caused jockey Ric McMahon to become unbalanced and Show Us Ya Diamonds was then held up for a run in the straight before finishing fifth.

McMahon said over the final 100m Show Us Ya Diamonds had felt awkward.

A post-race veterinary examination showed the filly was sore over the rump and lame in the off hind leg.

Trainer Barry Lockwood had intended to take Show Us Ya Diamonds to Sydney for the Inglis Three-Year-Old Sprint at Warwick Farm on February 10 but at this stage the trip is unlikely.

The heat on Saturday took its toll on several horses most notably the well fancied Savwell and Tumultuous.

Savwell was scratched pre-race on a request from trainer David Vandyke who was concerned the gelding was in a distressed state in the race day stalls.

Jockey Robbie Fradd said Tumultuous, who had won the Magic Millions Trophy at his previous start, raced flat in the Open Handicap (2400m).

Paul Shailer, trainer Chris Waller's Queensland manager, said the horse had returned to scale in a distressed state.
