Coolmore has won the bidding war to stand star colt Pierro at stud.

The five-time Group One winner was retired after running second to fellow three-year-old in last Saturday's Doncaster Mile.

Owner Greg Kolivos has had stud offers for the colt since he completed the juvenile triple crown a year ago.

"On the race track, Pierro provided me, my wife Donna and son Alex, with many wonderful days," Kolivos said.

"He is a champion in every sense of the word and we are now very much looking forward to a new, exciting chapter in his career."

Coolmore's Michael Kirwan said the stud was thrilled to secure Pierro.

"We've followed Pierro's career very closely ever since he made his debut and we're thrilled that he is joining what is already an exceptional line up of stallions here at Coolmore Australia," he said.

"A horse like Pierro is fundamental to the continued development of our operation in Australia and in both he and So You Think, Coolmore is now home to the two most desirable young stallions in the southern hemisphere that are free of Danehill blood."

Trained by Gai Waterhouse, the son of Lonhro won 11 of his 14 starts and earned more than $4.5 million.

A fee for Pierro has not yet been announced.
