The injury suffered by Reliable Man during his Group One win at Randwick on Saturday may not be as bad as first thought.
Things looked dire as Reliable Man limped over the line after inflicting defeat on three-year-old triple crown winner It's A Dundeel in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Trainer Chris Waller was among those who feared the 2011 French Derby winner had suffered a career-ending tendon injury when he stumbled before the winning post.
He was taken off the track in a horse ambulance to be assessed.
At the time Waller flagged retirement for the five-year-old who has had two starts in Australia.
"He's a very valuable stallion proposition and if there is any risk at all he will probably be retired," Waller said.
That is still the case but Waller said on Sunday it did not appear as serious as first thought and more would be known later this week.
Exacerbating the injury to the off fore, Reliable Man trod on his toe clip which became loose.
Waller's racing Liam Prior confirmed the leg was still swollen on Monday.
"The best case is it is just bruised," Prior said.
"The leg is still swollen so we won't know much more until later in the week."
Although the showcase Sydney carnival is over, the Waller stable is as busy as ever with runners at feature meetings this week.
German import Illo is the stable's likely runner in Friday's Wagga Cup (2000m) with multiple Group One winner Danleigh to head to the Gold Coast for the Hollindale Stakes after being given topweight of 63.5kg at Wagga.
Prior said Stout Hearted was also a likely starter in the Group Two weight-for-age Hollindale (1800m).
Stout Hearted has also been entered for the Rowley Mile on the eight-event card at Hawkesbury on Saturday, the major meeting in NSW.
