In the history of Prime Thoroughbreds Anzac Day 2013 will go down as a day to remember. Unchain My Heart’s win at Flemington was the start of a very big day that later saw Sweet Talkin Woman and Namsarai win at Warwick Farm. To have a metropolitan treble at Flemington and Warwick Farm was quite special particularly with just three runners at these two tracks on the day. Thank you to all the messages we received. See story below.
On Toast was our 200th runner for the season. Unfortunately, she didn’t get the cash. Our season is going very well with our team having 41 winners at a winning strike rate of 20.1%.
Our results compared to the other syndicators, listing all winners and place getters on the Bloodstock.com.au site each month for the season sees us leading in every month expect August and February when we finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. This list includes companies such as Star Thoroughbreds, Dynamic and Slade Bloodstock.
We have a quite week until Saturday where we have Unchain My Heart and Princess Royale at Flemington, Namsarai at Hawkesbury, Sea Tryst at the Gold Coast and Admiral’s Cup at Morphettville. On Sunday Faith’N’Courage may run at Devonport.
Mares
Prime Thoroughbreds syndicated yearlings that are now mares at stud have continued to perform very well with Wine ‘N’ Dine out of Zelady winning at Kembla Grange on Tuesday and Power Flow out of Miss Polanas won at Newcastle on Saturday. I also noticed Canchita had a winner recently and French Braids that was trained by Bill Mitchell had Monbazillac win on Tuesday as well.
Stallions
A couple of weeks ago I highlighted the great job Husson (Arg) was doing at stud. On the weekend the run continued with The Huntress winning the Listed Catanach’s Jeweller’s Stakes at Caulfield and the week before Little Miss Smiley was placed 2nd in the Listed Keith Mackay Quality at Royal Randwick. The Huntress looks very good.
Husson has had 8 stakes horses in Australia this season which is exceptional for a horse that didn’t get the ‘a’ grade mares with his oldest progeny being three year olds. Husson’s performances as a racehorse in Argentina where he was unbeaten would rate him as an exceptional individual. He won Argentina’s equivalent of the Golden Slipper by 9 lengths. Husson isn’t the only son of Hussonet making a name for himself here with Host, Husson Lightning and Trotamondo all doing a good job. In fact Husson, Host and Husson Lightning feature in the top 10 on the 2nd season sires lists for stakes money earned in Australia this season. These figures are very good considering the stallions didn’t get the best mares.
Hussonet himself is making a name for himself as a broodmare sire particularly when crossed with mares by Danehill and his sons. In fact from 101 runners out of mares by Danehill and his sons Flying Spur, Redoute’s Choice, Danzero, Desert King and Danewin there have been 68 individual winners. Another stallion whose daughters are working well is Royal Academy.
Shamardal had another Group one winner with Maybe Discreet winning the Australasian Oaks at Morphettville. I was thrilled to be able to offer the Shamardal filly this year. This will be his last Australian crop.
Trainers
There have been a couple of big announcements from our trainers with Tony McEvoy expanding into NSW where McEvoy Mitchell Racing has purchased a complex with 48 boxes at Hawkesbury. Also Mark Kavanagh has announced he is closing his Adelaide Stables in July and concentrating on his Melbourne Stable. This will leave Tony as our only South Australian trainer.
Syndicators Day
This Sunday William Inglis will conduct a Syndicator’s day at their Newmarket Stables near Randwick in Sydney. I will be attending and would be a nice opportunity to catch up with any of our owners who may wish to come along. The day starts at 10.30 am. Joe O’Neill 0433762700
