Jockey Tim Clark has cemented his homecoming from Hong Kong with victory on Scream Machine in the Wagga Wagga Gold Cup.
Clark returned to Australia this week after two seasons in Hong Kong and ventured to his former home town in the NSW Riverina on Friday to ride the Jason Coyle-trained four-year-old to a narrow victory in the 2000m Listed race.
Local horse Devised was denied by a nose for the second consecutive year.
The Tim Donnelly-trained gelding was runner-up in 2012 to Coliseo who finished third this year.
Coyle was thrilled with the win by Scream Machine whose Sydney autumn carnival plans went awry.
The trainer had targeted the Doncaster Mile with Scream Machine who failed to come up to the mark in his lead-up races.
"He's been promising to win one," Coyle told Sky Racing.
"We were originally going to the Doncaster but that didn't pan out.
"Then we thought he could win the JRA Plate but he was unlucky there.
"This was the logical option.
"I'm thrilled for the horse."
Clark, who began his career in the area, won his first Wagga Wagga Gold Cup at his first ride in 2008 aboard the Gerald Ryan-trained Tommifrancs.
