Despite having done the majority of his racing in Australia, Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time is being treated by the Lindsay Park stable like one of their imported gallopers.

Boom Time has his first run ahead of a light campaign in the Living Legend R E 'Mick' Mallyon Handicap (1800m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Of Boom Time's 34 starts, 33 have been on Australian soil.

After winning the Caulfield Cup, Boom Time finished 15th behind Rekindling in the Melbourne Cup before embarking on an overseas trip.

He finished 12th in the Japan Cup at the end of November and then had to spend time in England before returning to Australia.

Lindsay Park co-trainer Ben Hayes said Boom Time couldn't come straight back to Australia after his Japan Cup run for quarantine reasons.

"He did quarantine in Newmarket and then we had to wait until all the horses had cleared quarantine before he could come back to Australia," Hayes said.

"He then spent two weeks in quarantine before heading to the farm and we've been treating him like an import.

"He'll have a good base on him when we start him off again and hopefully he can defend his title for the Caulfield Cup."

Lindsay Park had two of their more recent UK imports, Fidaawy and Jaameh, run at Caulfield last week.

Jaameh was successful while Fidaawy finished just behind the placegetters.

Like those two gallopers who are heading towards potential spring targets, Boom Time will have a light campaign.

"He might have the one or two runs and we'll see how he goes then we'll get him ready to try and defend the title," Hayes said.

Paying the price for his Caulfield Cup success, Boom Time has been lumbered with 62kg in Saturday race.

However he will get a 2kg allowance with apprentice Fred Kersley booked for the ride.

Boom Time showed he has returned from his overseas adventure in good order.

He was successful in a Tatura barrier trial on April 17 and has since followed that with a Flemington jump-out.

"His trials have been excellent," Hayes said.

"He's got a great coat on him at the moment and he's eating well and working well.

"He's going well enough to win."
