Richard Litt savours stable breakthrough

Saturday 5 May 2018, 12:59pm

Former Godolphin three-year-old Sedition is thriving in his new home with Richard Litt, giving the Warwick farm trainer his first Saturday-class win at Rosehill.

Litt took over the stable from his father Jim a couple of years ago and has a small team in work, bolstered by recent acquisitions from Godolphin and Chris Waller.

Before Saturday, Sedition had had four starts for Litt for three seconds and a Gosford maiden win.

"It's good to get good people into horses like this," Litt said.

"There are some good horses around for sale for not too much."

Sent out at $5, Sedition led the chasing pack from the outset when Deanne Panya took Goldfinch ($12) to a big lead which she maintained into the home straight of the #Theraces (1200m).

At the 200m, Goldfinch began to put in shorter strides, with Sedition full of running under Adam Hyeronimus.

Sedition hit the line a half neck in front of Fox Swift ($5.50) with Goldfinch battling on for third, another long head away.

"I knew I could get the leader," Hyeronimus said. "It was just a matter of whether anything else could get me."

While the win was one to savour for Litt, it wasn't much consolation for the loss of the former Waller-trained Mackintosh who had to be euthanised after suffering a catastrophic leg injury in last week's Hawkesbury Cup.

"He was a lovely horse," Litt said.

"We only had him for four weeks but everyone in the stable loved him.

"But that's racing as they say."
