Last-start Caulfield winner Written Choice will return to the track looking for a a bigger payday.

The three-year-old, who has won two of his four starts and been placed at his other two, is set to run over 1200m for the first time on Saturday.

Trained at Mornington by Logan McGill, Written Choice will take on his own age on Saturday in a race which also carries a Vobis bonus.

He defeated older horses in a benchmark 70 race over 1100m on April 28 after getting a run as the fourth emergency.

The win came at his first start since early March which McGill said was because the colt had some minor issues following his third placing at Pakenham.

"He was eight weeks between runs into his win the other day so hopefully he should strip a little bit fitter there on Saturday," McGill said.

"He's quite an immature type of colt even though he's three now so we took our time with him."

McGill said even though Written Choice's best performances have been when racing on the pace, he doesn't believe the three-year-old to be one dimensional.

He said when ridden off the pace at Pakenham he did things wrong during the race which brought about his undoing.

"His best asset is he runs quick time, but does it comfortably," McGill said.

"When he lands on speed he's able to cruise along at his own pace and he can let down off a pretty quick tempo.

"While he's learning what it's all about, that's the way we'll ride him, but I don't think he's that one dimensional either.

"The penny still has to drop."

Stephen Baster, who rode him to victory last start, galloped the three-year-old at Mornington on Tuesday morning.

McGill said Baster reported Written Choice had made improvement from the Caulfield win.

With Baster riding the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Runaway in the South Australian Derby at Morphettville on Saturday, apprentice Fred Kersley takes the ride.

"We'll claim off him and that should get him into the race quite well," McGill said.
