ATC begins search for Everest runner

Thursday 10 May 2018, 2:52pm

The Australian Turf Club has begun the process to select its representative for the $13 million Everest.

In the inaugural running last year, Brave Smash ran for the club and performed with distinction, finishing third to Redzel who will run this year for Yulong Investments.

The ATC says it will again look to secure a runner from Australia or overseas to promote Sydney racing and the club in the richest race on turf in the world.

Criteria including but not limited to the following will be used by ATC in the search for its slot partner:

* Career performance and international rating, along with performance at Group level during a horse's career but particularly during the past 12 months

* Extent of the commercial proposal put forward by owners or representatives.

* Horses who have won or performed exceptionally well at Group level in recognised thoroughbred racing countries.

ATC general manager International and Wagering, James Ross, said the Everest was already creating huge interest five months before the race on October 13.

"The search by ATC and all other slot owners for a runner is one of the most exciting parts of the TAB Everest even this far out from the race itself,'' Ross said.

"ATC has already been approached by interested parties and we will continue to seek out potential horses who not only fit our strategic objectives but who will also be highly competitive.''

Triple Group One winner Trapeze Artist and Galaxy winner In Her Time have secured their spots with Aquis and Tabcorp respectively.
