Trainer Tony Gollan had his second piece of luck in the matter of minutes when Sheiswhatsheis scored her first stakes win in the Listed Members Handicap (1600m) at Doomben.
Ridden a masterful front-running race by Jeff Lloyd, Sheiswhatsheis ($7) held on to beat Aqua Vite ($4) by a short-half head with three quarters of a length to Nozomi ($17) in third.
Only minutes earlier Gollan had a lucky escape when a horse lashed out in the saddling enclosure and missed him by centimetres.
"That was two close shaves in the matter of minutes. I really didn't know if she had won but it was a great ride by Jeff (Lloyd)," Gollan said.
Gollan said he had chased Lloyd for the ride.
"I have been saying for some time that Sheiswhatsheis would win a black-type race and now she has done that," Gollan said.
"She is in the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale (on May 29) but the owners may want to have a think and race on with her."
Lloyd said he had been able to dictate the pace and Sheiswhatsheis had held on bravely.
