Our Belisa resumes search for black-type

Thursday 17 May 2018, 5:17pm

Talented mare Our Belisa embarks on her latest campaign aimed at gaining black-type she resumes at Rosehill after bypassing Sydney's autumn carnival.

Trainer John Thompson has the mare back for the Chris Waller Hall Of Fame Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill, hoping to upstage the trio of runners in the race named in honour of Sydney's premier trainer.

Our Belisa will be racing for the first time since her fifth in the Group Three Belle Of The Turf (1600m) at Gosford on December 28.

"She'll probably improve with the run under her belt," Thompson said.

Our Belisa has had three barrier trials to prepare for her comeback, her latest at Randwick on Tuesday.

"She was knocked around a bit in that one but she's in good order and from barrier one she should run well," Thompson said.

Our Belisa, a $6.50 chance with the TAB on Thursday, has not been placed in previous attempts in stakes grade but Thompson is confident she can feature at that level.

"We'll take it one step at a time but I think she'll achieve it at some stage," he said.

Waller, who is inducted in the Australian Racing Hall Of Fame on Friday is represented by $3.50 favourite I Am Serious, Miss Ballintine ($11) and Awoke ($12).

Thompson also saddles up Special Missile in the Australian Hall Of Fame Handicap (1500m) as the $4.40 second elect to favourite Up 'N' Rolling ($3.60) from Chris Waller's stable.

The four-year-old was edged out by Tougherthantherest in a Benchmark 94 Handicap on May 5.

"He went close last start and meets a pretty similar field here. I think the 1500 will be better than the 1350 the other day," Thompson said.
