Cummings picks Brisbane for 3YO's return

Monday 6 May 2013, 4:44pm

Trainer Anthony Cummings has selected the BTC Cup as the return race for exciting sprint prospect Your Song.

Cummings said he had been weighing up between the BTC Cup in Brisbane and the Goodwood in Adelaide.

Both races, run on over 1200m on Saturday, offer the same amount in stakes at $400,000 and carry Group One status.

"I thought about going to the Gold Coast Guineas with him but I changed my mind and decided to trial him instead," Cummings said.

Confirming Cummings's belief he will be forward enough to be competitive at Group One level despite not being seen since the spring, Your Song won a Randwick barrier trial last Friday by seven lengths.

"He is right to go ... has been for a while now," Cummings said.

Your Song will be sent to Brisbane on Wednesday night and Sydney jockey Peter Robl has been booked to continue his association with the colt.

The three-year-old hasn't raced since a minor placing in the Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick in October.

Before that he underlined his potential at the start of his sophomore season when he ran second to glamour colt Pierro at Group Three level.

Finishing among the unplaced runners that day was All Too Hard, the half-brother to Black Caviar who was retired on Sunday after three Group One wins subsquent to the September 1 race.

Your Song has won two of his six starts with both victories coming towards the end of last season.

Cummings also nominated Cornwall Park and Diamond Earth for the BTC Cup but said both would miss the race.

Trainer John Thompson will rely Metallurgical and Reflectance as his two BTC Cup runners.

Sea Siren has been confirmed for a back-to-back BTC Cup bids despite an indifferent start to her campaign.

The mare has been unplaced in the Galaxy and the T J Smith Stakes but goes into Saturday's race with a recent Warwick Farm trial to her credit.
