Danish Twist seeks sales boost with win

Tuesday 22 May 2018, 5:18pm

Danish Twist has a timely opportunity to enhance her value at Doomben where she seeks a drought-breaking win days out from a broodmare sale.

The six-year-old mare has not won since June 2016 when she claimed the Listed June Stakes at Randwick, part of a four-race winning streak featuring the Provincial Championship final and the Group Three Dark Jewel Classic.

Danish Twist has had 20 starts since then and has managed three minor placings for Newcastle trainer Kris Lees.

In her most recent start she was fifth in this year's edition of the Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone on May 12.

"She's a long time out of the winners' stall, but her runs have been OK," Lees told Sky Sports Radio.

"She goes through a broodmare sale on Tuesday (week) and I'm sure she'll attract plenty of interest."

Danish Twist, who has eight wins from 37 starts, faces the sixth run of her preparation in Saturday's Group Three Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m).

At the other end of the experience spectrum, Lees saddles up unbeaten two-year-old colt Graff for a step up to the Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes (1350m).

Graff broke his maiden on debut at Rosehill on April 2 and later last month he claimed the Clarendon Stakes at Hawkesbury.

He galloped between races at Newcastle on Saturday and will wear blinkers for the first time to sharpen his focus after he wavered slightly at Hawkesbury.

Graff's goal is the Group One J J Atkins (1600m) at Doomben on June 9.
